Béchamel Sauce also known as White Sauce is one of the most versatile condiments ever. Used with Italian Lasagna, French Gratin, Greek Moussaka and American Mac n Cheese, it is a sauce that travelled the world and is loved by many.
I personally use it with different types of meals and it always adds to the dish a creamy soft touch. This is why I thought of sharing it with you as it comes in handy.
The white sauce’s preparation is super easy, quick and the final result is definitely tasty. But the biggest surprise is that it is BUTTER FREE!!!
- DifficultyVery easy
- CostVery cheap
- Preparation time15 Minutes
- Cooking methodStove
Ingredients

- 4 cupsmilk
- 4 spoonsflour
- 1 pinchsalt
- 1 pinchnutmeg
Preparation of the Béchamel Sauce
Start preparing the sauce by pouring the milk into a medium-sized saucepan over low to medium heat.
In order to avoid lumps, sift the flour into the saucepan and start mixing the ingredients together with a whisk.
Finally, add the pinches of salt and nutmeg. Keep whisking until the thickening of the Béchamel Sauce. This will require approximately 10 minutes.

Advice
– It is advised to consume the Béchamel Sauce while still hot from the saucepan. Once cold, it will become thicker and harder to use.
– However, you can conserve it in the fridge for a couple of days covered with a plastic wrap in direct contact with the sauce to avoid the formation of a skin on top.
I hope you enjoyed the Béchamel Sauce recipe.
